Geoff Barnard was born in the UK in 1947 to a Jewish father and a Gentile mother. He has been a research scientist for more than 55 years. He has co-authored approximately 100 peer-reviewed academic papers and several scientific chapters. He obtained his PhD from the University of London in 1982. His last academic position in the UK was at the University of Cambridge (2002-2009). In 1978, he had his first opportunity to work at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel. This proved to be his gateway into Israel which has never closed. In 2010, he made Aliyah with his wife Caryl, and they now live in Arad on the edge of the Negev Desert. They live opposite “The Fountain of Tears” and Geoff regularly hosts Israeli and International groups that visit this magnificent sculpture created by his friend, Rick Wienecke.

Geoff was not brought up to be Jewish. In fact, he became a Christian in 1966 at the age of 18. The 55+ years of scientific research have been paralleled by a study of the Bible.  In 1998, he was awarded an MA in Theology from New College, University of Southampton. His dissertation was entitled “Days of Grace: The Significance of the Festivals in the Fourth Gospel”.

Over many years, Geoff has developed an Israel-centered post-Holocaust eschatology. In other words, since the nation of Israel was born out of the ashes of the Holocaust, their “time of trouble” is now past (Jeremiah 30:7). The Jewish people are returning to the Land, and this is a pre-requisite to their return to the Lord and becoming “A Light to the Nations”.

His commitment is best summed up in the words of Isaiah the prophet:

“For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch.” Isaiah 62:1
